About
Ulrich Frerk
An Auckland artist who makes digital code art: pictures drawn by programs he writes.
His first piece, MULTIVERSE MAP, charts 77 films as a transit map, every storyline its own line and every station on the month its film reached cinemas. It is printed at 300 dpi on Hahnemühle Photo Rag as a signed limited edition, printed by Print Art in Takapuna and framed by The Black and White Box.
With Morgan Sibbald he built the Music Brain, a map of where music comes from: every genre, scene, venue, artist and record, and every sourced link between them.
As Mr Mel he DJs and produces house music. House found him in about 1999, when he met Uncle Phil at a club in Takapuna called Fever. His first single, Permission Granted, came out in March 2026. SoundCloud · Apple Music
